Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own legal jurisdictions which are entirely separate to ours but traditionally England and Wales have been "joined at the hip" in relation to their legal jurisdiction. We are English and Welsh Solicitors but if plans by the Welsh Assembly go ahead that may all change.
First Minister Carwyn Jones announced at the Legal Wales Conference in October that they were considering plans for a separate Welsh jurisdiction, distinct from England. Currently they plan a green paper in 2012 to consider creating a new separate Welsh jurisdiction. Mr Jones said "We already have divergence between Welsh law and the law in England, particularly in education, health and social care. With the assemblys new powers it will become increasingly divergent".
