John Webster
John has many years of experience having worked in some of the country’s leading law firms. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives in June 1991 and became a Solicitor in 1993. He is also a qualified Mediator.
After working in a number of firms he joined city firm Holman Fenwick and Willen in 1984 as assistant to the head of the department handling marine personal injury cases in the UK and overseas.
In 1988 he moved to the London office of Davies Arnold Cooper (DAC) handling volume personal injury cases for insurers. There he led a team dealing with all of the employers liability cases for a major British airline and also acted for insurers and protection & indemnity (P&I) clubs all over the world, specialising in the investigation of maritime accidents. He also gained considerable experience of product liability and professional indemnity cases.
In 1993 John relocated to the Manchester office of DAC to become head of their insurance litigation department and, subsequently, became head of the national common law (personal injury) department.
In 1999 John joined Merricks solicitors (subsequently Merricks LLP) in their Birmingham office and following an internal restructuring, he became head of their national personal injury department. In 2001 the practice became a Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) whereupon John joined the firm's management board and in 2002 he became head of the national litigation department.
In March 2004 John left Merricks LLP to set up Webster O'Brien.
